The broad and balanced curriculum at The Victory Academy is designed to provide all pupils with a high-quality education appropriate to their needs in order to prepare them academically, socially and personally for the opportunities, challenges and responsibilities of further or higher education, employment and adult life.
The Academy’s virtues of Respect, Pride, Belief and Aspiring, and Endeavour to Achieve our Personal Best underpins all aspects of our inclusive provision assisting our students to enjoy their education, feel valued and to develop both academically and personally. All pupils are supported in their learning and encouraged to engage in every aspect of school life.
At The Victory Academy, we operate a 3-year Key Stage 3 – we want the curriculum to ensure that all students have both the academic depth and breadth of knowledge required to be successful at GCSE, and also have developed the required study skills and metacognitive approaches to learning that we instil to ensure students can develop long term knowledge and skills.
Students follow courses in Maths, English, Science, History, Geography, French, Spanish, Victory Citizenship (RE and PSHE), Physical Education, ICT, Resistant Materials, Food and Nutrition, Art, Music, Drama and Dance. In addition, most students study two languages – French and Spanish in Year 7, and one language in Years 8 and 9. Pupils are placed in mixed ability tutor groups. In Maths and Science students are grouped according to their ability but in other subjects they are taught in mixed ability groups.
Key Stage 4 is introduced in Year 9, with courses commencing in Year 10. Our Pathways process is based on the interests, abilities and aptitude of pupils. It offers a range of GCSE and Level 2 Vocational qualifications, designed to support students to progress to Key Stage 5. No pupil is forced to study a non-core subject or down a curriculum route they do not wish to follow.
