House Teams

Students at The Victory Academy are divided into four Houses named after historic ships. These Houses provide opportunities for students to compete in House competitions throughout the year. Students can earn points for their House, and the winning House is rewarded each term.

The Four Houses are:

Ocelot

HM Submarine Ocelot was laid down at Chatham Dockyard on the 17th of November 1960.

She was launched two years later in May 1962 from No. 7 Slip. Significantly Ocelot was the last submarine to be built in Chatham Dockyard for the Royal Navy. Ocelot paid off in August 1991 and returned to Chatham Historic Dockyard in 1992.

Gannet

A sloop of the Victorian Royal Navy, HMS Gannet was built on the River Medway at Sheerness in 1878. 

Powered by both sail and steam, with a hull constructed from stout teak planking on a strong iron frame, this highly significant vessel forms part of the United Kingdom’s core national collection of historic ships.

Leviathan

HMS Leviathan was a Courageux Class, Third Rate, 74 gun ship of the line of the Common Type, built by the Royal Dockyard, Chatham.

HMS Leviathan was launched into the River Medway on Saturday, 9th October 1790. On completion, she was a ship of 1707 tons. She was 172ft 3in long on her upper gundeck and 47ft 10in wide across the beam.

Cavalier

HMS Cavalier gave sterling service to God, The King, The Queen and the Country during her 27 years with the Royal Navy.

 Cavalier was privileged to be among the first ships to be built with a partially welded hull, the forward and after parts, while amidships remained riveted to ensure strength.
