The Victory Harbour

Welcome to The Victory Harbour, our new Specialist Resource Provision, supporting young people of Medway.

The Victory Harbour is our Specialist Resource Provision (SRP) which is a dedicated provision specifically, for students with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs. The Harbour Centre is fully part of The Victory Academy.

The Victory Harbour, open from September 2025, welcome five Year 7 students initially before continuing to build intake year on year. The opening of The Victory Harbour is a culmination of hard work and determination for all the staff involved. It exemplifies our vision that all children matter, and that we want to support all of our students to access the right education for them

The vision of The Victory Harbour:

To be an integral part of our school and a centre of excellence for children with SEMH and children who, with support, can access opportunities in mainstream education.

To be a base where children with SEMH are supported to learn strategies to enable them to achieve and thrive. Focusing on communicating and interacting with and relating to others, and experiencing the diverse, real world around them.

To be an inspirational provision of inclusion that is reflective of the wider school ethos and values.

Admissions

Admission to The Victory Harbour will be for students with an Education Health Care Plan (EHCP) who may not be able to access mainstream education full time.

When considering a placement of a student in The Victory Harbour, Medway Council will consult with The Victory Academy in accordance with the SEND Code of Practice. The Victory Academy will discuss each potential case with the Local Authority panel and will observe and meet with any potential students prior to responding to Medway’s consultation.

Our Curriculum

Students within the Harbour Centre follow an integrated model, where they attend mainstream lessons alongside their peers. The level of integration will be individual to each student. However, the general expectation is that this will increase over the course of their education, with the view of achieving independence by the end of their statutory education. The Victory Harbour also provides students with an alternative educational environment, where they receive personalised support, as outlined within their EHCP. In addition, students are encouraged to embrace all aspects of school life, including assemblies, extra curricular clubs, educational trips, and special events.

The Victory Harbour Manager is responsible for ensuring that the setting is appropriate to the individual needs of our students and will advise on the appropriate deployment of staff and resources. In addition, they are also responsible for ensuring that the provision and interventions offered have a positive impact in terms of outcomes for the student.

  • In Years 7, 8, and 9, students access a broad and ambitious curriculum, which is intended to provide Academic Challenge, develop Cultural Capital, and recognise Diversity.
  • In Years 10 and 11, students select a number of options which enables them to personalise their GCSE curriculum. Our options are broad to enable them to fulfil their interests and continue their love for learning.

Our Sixth Form curriculum provides a number of courses and pathways for our students, ensuring they finish their educational journey with the appropriate knowledge, skills, and attributes to either continue into higher education or step into the world of employment.

What does the Victory Harbour look like Day to Day?

Students attending The Victory Harbour will be full members of The Victory Academy. Therefore, we will work with students and families to ensure as full an integration as possible. Each student will follow a personalised plan outlined within their EHCP. This provision will be delivered either within mainstream lessons via the support of their teacher and (where necessary) a learning mentor or alternatively, within The Victory Harbour. In addition, we also work collaboratively with a number of external agencies to ensure that we are offering the best provision for our students.

The Victory Harbour aims to put into place the correct level of support prior to the student starting at The Victory Academy. In order to achieve this, we shall:

  • hold open evenings
  • attend a transition meeting with the previous school and other professionals prior to the student joining. This may also include attending the final primary annual review.
  • visit the student at their current setting, so that they can discuss their thoughts and feelings around moving to The Victory Academy.
  • invite the student and parents for a transition visit and tour. Additional visits can be arranged if required.
  • provide a transition pack that has detailed information including; key staff, school map and example of a time table.
